I had a spun bearing on the #1 piston rod. With the help of a friend we were able to replace the bearing from beneath without removing the engine. But the crank was scratched up, so the new bearing isn't going to last long.

My question is, who can i get to replace the crank? I don't have the means to remove the engine and do it myself.

I'm sure many people on this forum have rebuilt or replaced engines, would you be willing to do my crankshaft? and how much would you charge me to do it?

Thanks in advance
Brian

IF there isn't any thing protuding from the crank journal, it should be fine. You should be able to drop the pan and run some very fine grit sandpaper or emory cloth over the journal to make it last a while.

If things are chewed up really bad, if the journal is out of round or if the crank is warped, it'll need to be replaced. But it should be knocking if that's the case.

It was sanded as best we could with an emory cloth, but there is still a knocking sound. I have no idea how long it's going to last, but that crank is going to need to be replaced eventually.

It runs ok now, but i don't trust that it's reliable for any extended trips.

You sure the knocking wasn't there before. These engine do tend to have a knock anyway.

I had a knock for about 6 months before the rod bearing totally let go. I'm assuming it's the same, but it may not be.

Maybe I'll just run it as is for a while and see what happens.

Thanks

You'll probably go from having a fixable engine to needing a replacement.

Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Ya, that's the same knocking sound I had just before the bearing went.

Does anyone have a good 1st gen DOHC engine for sale?
